MEET THE DIRECTOR OF TRAINING

Erin Bailey was eight years old when the Internet went mainstream in 1993. Two years later, she got her first computer – a pink and white iMac with matching printer. And when she was 12, the first social media site was launched. It was called Six Degrees and was closely followed by MySpace and Facebook – then a bewildering blur of new offerings and technologies.

So Erin literally grew up texting, posting, liking and friending her way through early adolescence and the turbulent teens.

At THE Ohio State University, she earned dual degrees in web-based communications and music, then pursued a more practical MBA in small business marketing at Southern Methodist University.

For ten years, Erin worked in the trenches of social media marketing. She learned how websites, apps and YouTube channels harness children’s attention and monetize it. The alarming consequences of excessive screen time – such as bone density loss and online depression – inspired her to launch a company called The Social Family, teaching positive social media methods through workshops and individual family sessions.

As technology advanced, Erin began teaching seniors, helping the generation that gave us color TV and the Moon Landing enjoy Facebook Live and SnapChat. She also volunteers with The Trevor Project, an online suicide and crisis intervention hotline for young people. Ask her anything. Everyone deserves to be safe online!
